Beatty Printing

Recognition Summary for Consumers

As a community printer Beatty Printing is evolving from a chemical process printer, towards”process less” plates (a chemical-free printer).  Using lasers, images are burned directly onto the printing plates. The residual chemicals needed in the process are being recovered and recycled.

Beatty Printing is a certified, Forest  Stewardship Council (FSC) printer.  It has gone through the rigor of certification and auditing.  This certification is a commitment to good forestry practices, carried from forest to consumer. The standards ensure environmental, community , worker and industry needs are balanced.  FSC paper products used by Beatty Printing are a standard for healthy forests –ecologically sound and supporting First Nations.  Clients utilizing Beatty Printing are committing to Making A Difference Environmentally (MADE). Their use of paper products, through Beatty Printing, is acknowledged by the Green Check program.

Next Steps –  Green Year 2 – 08

  • Examination of recovering the “fountain” solution, the residual part of the chemical process, still existing, headed towards a process using aqueous chemicals, not harmful to the environment

  • Reuse of boxes for clients, as opposed to new, with a Green Check sticker (also a savings to the customer and cardboard does not have to be picked up by a third party)
  • Research the sources, (Tembec, in particular) for more FSC paper, particularly local pulp for local paper types;  see www.tembec.com and the Forever Green program.

  • Use of more soya-based inks (as these improve through research and development)
