People need to become more aware of how recycled materials – coloured glass for example, from “blue box” programs are manufactured into new raw materials, leading to the availability of new, ‘greener’ consumer choices within the marketplace. Poraver® North America is the leading manufacturer of recycled glass granulates, which are utilized by building product manufacturers in a number of applications. Each year thousands of tons of post-consumer glass are recovered within the “blue box” program. Poraver® North America is a leading example of innovation through the utilization of recycled glass. The company utilizes only the recycled glass that could not be used by the glass industry, which for the most part, is coloured glass and fine glass shards. Poraver® North America diverts a significant amount of glass that otherwise would end up in our landfill sites (more than 80 000 tons per year of mixed, broken and coloured glass).
Poraver® North America is committed to its environmental and quality assurance reputation as a source of high-value, porous glass granulates. This material is long-lasting and safe. Recycled, coloured glass originates from Ontario municipal, “blue box programs.”

Next Steps
At present the Poraver technology converts mixed glass into a product that is lightweight, strong and versatile. Discovering new applications with industrial partners is an ongoing priority. Other, similar, manufacturing facilities are being considered for other locations.
